Dear Family and Friends of Great Hearts Lakeside,
We are excited to announce Lakeside's second annual Read-a-thon! This is a school-wide contest that brings scholars together with family, friends and faculty to encourage reading and literacy skills while helping us reach our Community Investment goal.
During this 14 day event, we want scholars to delve into the powerful world of literature. One of the keystones of Great Hearts is our love of Great Books. The Great Books are works that have stood the test of time as being exemplary for their beauty, eloquence, impact on history, and profundity in addressing the essential questions of what it means to be human. These classics teach us how to question and think deeply about the world around us, addressing great ideas such as Justice, Liberty, Equality, Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
From Friday, May 13 through Thursday, May 26, GH Lakeside will embark on a reading adventure that challenges each scholar to complete 14 reading sessions over a two-week period.
Every dollar raised during Read-a-thon goes directly into the Community Investment Campaign for the 21-22 academic year. Community Investment, in turn, helps pay for reading materials, Spalding cards and notebooks, and training for our faculty. Without these components, our literacy program would not be what it is.
Last year Lakeside Lion scholars read over 78,000 minutes!
