Dear PS 198 Families, Friends, Supporters,
We are excited to announce the launch of PS 198’s very first Read-a-Thon, a way in which we can support growth in our students’ reading stamina while raising money for our school! Getting deep into books by exploring the characters, themes, and author’s craft is how a child builds strong reading and critical thinking skills. In order to engage in this work, it requires extended time and attention to text; in other words, endurance or stamina as a reader. Between March 13 and March 24, we will be running our school wide Read-a-Thon and teachers will focus their efforts on increasing time spent independently reading in their classrooms. While reading, our students will also help raise funds for our school.
With your support we hope you can reach out to relatives, friends and neighbors near and far and ask them to support children's reading habits by making a donation to the school and sending an encouraging message to our readers. We hope that you will join us in our efforts. The money we raise from our Read-a-Thon will be used to update the books in our classroom libraries.
