Elementary School Read-A-Thon FAQ

What is the best platform for a Read-A-Thon fundraiser?

Read-A-Thon! Read-A-Thon is the top comprehensive platform for elementary schools interested in hosting a reading fundraiser. Our system is designed for schools, students, and parents to easily track reading progress, make donations, and spread the word to get your entire community involved.

What percentage of donations does Read-A-Thon take?

Read-A-Thon offers two flexible profit options based on your school’s chosen prize model. If your elementary school decides to handle prizes itself, then you’ll receive 80% of the donation total. If you’d like Read-A-Thon to handle prizes, you’ll gain access to our prize store, where students can select prizes based on how much they’ve raised for your school. In this approach, you’ll receive 75% of the donation total.

Remember, Read-A-Thon has no start-up fees, meaning you’ll always earn when you partner with us.

Should my elementary school track time read or pages read?

Every student reads at their own pace and at their own reading level, so we recommend tracking reading progress by minutes read rather than page count. With the Read-A-Thon platform, students can update their reading logs to reflect their progress and keep both your school and all of their pledged donors in the loop.

How long should my school’s Read-A-Thon last?

We recommend hosting your Read-A-Thon over the course of two weeks. This timeframe gives students plenty of time to read and collect donations, without dragging the fundraiser out and losing momentum.

Should elementary schools schedule Read-A-Thons during class time?

While it’s ultimately up to your school, we have found that most teachers actually love hosting Read-A-Thons during class time. Silent reading time fits easily into elementary school curricula and motivates even reluctant readers.
